He sings and plays most of the instruments himself, using multi-tracking to create the studio sound. Wallinger cites influences such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Junior Walker, Neil Young and Prince. Will Towyn - sampling keyboards (probably a pseudonym for Wallinger - pun on 'will to win').Anthony Thistlethwaite - saxophone ('Ship of Fools').Sinéad O'Connor - backing vocals ('Private Revolution', 'Hawaiian Island World').Millennium Mills - piano (probably a pseudonym for Wallinger - name taken from Millennium Mills building in London Docklands).Ahmed Gottlieb - sitar and tabla (probably a pseudonym for Wallinger).Martin Finnucane - harp ('Dance of the Hoppy Lads') (probably a pseudonym for Wallinger - this is the name of a character in the Flann O'Brien novel The Third Policeman).Rufus Dove - guitars (probably a pseudonym for Wallinger - pun on 'rufous dove').Delahaye - drums, percussion (possibly a pseudonym for Wallinger, or for Mike Scott - this is an alias also used on several Waterboys albums).Karl Wallinger - vocals, guitars, bass, sampling keyboards, drum programming.'It Can Be Beautiful (Sometimes)' (3:00).Manufacturers please note: The vinyl on my new copy is not as good as the original copy and is warped. All songs written by Karl Wallinger except 'Dance of the Hoppy Lads', written by Wallinger with Stephen Wickham, and 'All I Really Want to Do', written by Bob Dylan. Personally, I feel that this should have special treatment with 180g vinyl and half-speed mastering. I have bought this in vinyl format as my original copy has been played to death, and my CD version doesn't cut it up against the vinyl format. He has produced a further four albums under the World Party banner, all as equally good as their predecessors. Obviously, he had some fine accompaniment, but it shines through that this is one man's vision. He practically did all the 'hard work' himself by writing ten out of the eleven tracks playing guitars and bass singing the main vocals and producing the album himself. Mr Wallinger deserves better praise for his debut effort. It would without a doubt, faired better if it had been released now! But mostly because of the enforced deluge of acid and house music that was being produced, a genre of music where obviously real talent doesn't actually shine through, it seemed to have gotten the cold shoulder. It did spawn some success with the classic "Ship of Fools", that was released as a single. Upon its' initial release, this was a very much overlooked collection of brilliant songs.
